Front Forks The front suspension of the motorcycle uses forks on motorcycles. These can move up and down at different rates depending on the roughness of the terrain and the weight of the bike. If they do not correctly balance the bike, it will become unstable to ride. The forks 'sit' within the fork legs, held together by fork seals. If the forks become damaged, they can 'fray' the fork seals and cause problems. Fork springs were changed to the Touratech progressive springs. These are mounted in an upside down position for improved handling. The fork oil has been changed to 10w weight, which should improve handling, in particular with the heavier load of luggage. Neoprene fork gaiters as below were also fitted to prevent stone chips to the forks, which could lead to damage to the fork seals.
Update: The neoprene gaitors have succeeded in protecting the fork seals as I have had no leaks. They are, however beginning to wear after 28,000 miles. It has been good to have had one less thing to worry about. |
