Horn Drivers in some countries beep their horn very frequently. Others drive loud, noisy trucks and do not pay attention to other road users. A louder horn helps to make them aware of the Riders' presence. Use of a horn, however does not excuse attentive riding... The BMW supplied horn is embarrassingly quiet, so has been replaced by the 139db Stebel Nautilus Compact, mounted on the right hand engine bar and wired via a relay. One of the side benefits of the louder horn is that due to its volume, it is only used when absolutely necessary. It sounds like a train!
Update from the road: An absolute necessity in most of the countries that were visited. In particular, in Pakistan and India, where use of a horn is as frequent as changing gear! After 26,000 miles of use, it's volume has deteriorated somewhat. |
