Trip Overview

The Rider left the UK on May 21st 2007. After various stop-offs around Europe (including the Slovak and Czech Republics, Hungary and Romania), the trip began in earnest. The route went through the Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. From there, China was traversed to reach Pakistan and India. As foreigners are not permitted to drive their own vehicles in China, much paperwork had to be done, but everything went smoothly, traversing the Torugart and Kunjerab passes and completing the entirety of the Karakoram Highway (KKH), one of the world's most beautiful but challenging roads.

Upon reaching India, the Rider spent some time exploring Rajasthan and Nepal before visiting the stunning beaches of Goa and Kerala towards the south, from where the bike was flown across to Malaysia.

From Malaysia, the plan had been to cross to Indonesia, however a lack of shipping options available to coincide with timing requirements meant that shipping would have to be directly from Singapore to Darwin, Australia.

Reading it back, it sounds easy, but there has been plenty of adventure along the way, meeting people from very different cultures, as well as negotiating border crossings and staying wherever is available. Of course, one of the key benefits of travelling under ones own steam has been the ability to change plans and stop off wherever seems interesting.
